Captain Michael Monroe Gollaher
PROTOCOL & PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER
CPT Michael Monroe Gollaher retired from service in the Army of the United States in January of 1997.  At the time of his service he was  the protocol officer and speech writer for Maj. Gen. John F. Kane, the Adjutant General, Idaho.

CPT Gollaher was born in 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He graduated from Borah High School, Boise, Idaho in 1971, and attended Boise State University.  His military education as a commissioned officer includes the AMEDD Officer Basic Course (1983), NBC Defense Officer Course (1983), Public Affairs Officers School (1989), Strategic Planning Course of the National Guard of the United States, and the AMEDD Officers Advanced Course (1994).

CPT Gollaher entered service as an enlisted soldier in January, 1975, attending Basic Training at Fort Ord, California.  He attended the U.S. Army Basic Medical Specialist Course and Physical Therapy Specialist Course at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and was assigned to the Medical Department Activity and Darnall Army Hospital at Fort Hood, Texas.  After attaining additional training as a certified emergency medical technician and enlisted physician's assistant,  he was assigned duties in the Acute Minor Illness Clinic and Emergency Clinic at Darnall Army Hospital.  While stationed at Fort Hood he earned his Expert Field Medical Badge with the 1st Cavalry Division, and attained the rank of Specialist 5 (E-5).

CPT Gollaher left the Regular Army at the end of his initial enlistment to join the 748th Medical Detachment of the Idaho Army National Guard in 1978. After attending NCO basic course and senior NCO school (reserve components), he was promoted as the detachment first sergeant in 1980. Gollaher received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant through the ROTC program at Boise State University in December of 1982.

In addition to serving with with the 3d Armored Division in the Persian Gulf War, the 3-325th Airborne Infantry in Bosnia-Hercegovina, and the U.S. Embassy in Jamaica, CPT Gollaher's deployments included active duty tours as part of the "key personnel upgrade program" (KPUP) as acting logistical officer for the 20th Medical Group and a REFORGER exercise in Germany with the 3d Armored Division and V Corps.

CPT Gollaher's awards and decorations include: Bronze Star (merit), Army Commendation Medal, Army RC Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon with bronze star device, Southwest Asia Campaign Ribbon with three campaign stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (third award), RC Overseas Deployment Ribbon (third award), and the Expert Field Medical Badge. 

Associations:
CPT Gollaher's membership affiliations during his career included membership in the National Guard Association of the United States, the Idaho Officer's Association, the Idaho Press Club (former board of directors), a founding member of the Idaho Military Historical Society, and as a board member of the Idaho Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

CPT Gollaher is married to the former Nancy May Faidley of Killeen, Texas, and has five children.  Daughters Khera, Krysten and Khimilee are all married with six grandchildren for their mom and dad. Son Monroe attends junior high school, and Bryan attends elementary school.
